The Tri-Nations is an annual competition between three Southern Hemisphere nations: Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Since its inauguration in 1996, the series has been dominated by the New Zaland All Blacks team.
The series is jointly sponsored and organised by SANZAR, a consortium of South Africa Rugby Union + New Zealand Rugby Union + Australian Rugby Union.
Until 2006 it was a six match series, with each nation playing each other twice. In 2006 it was changed to a nine match series. However, because of the World Cup taking place in 2007, the series has again been reduced to 6 matches to avoid players being overloaded.
Matches are scheduled to take place in all 3 participating countries from July to September each year.
